PRIDE COMES BEFORE A FALL

23 May

By Terry Loving

“Now, brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, “Do not go beyond what is written.” Then you will not take pride in one man over against another.”

(1 Corinthians 4:6)

It is my sincere hope, that Harold Camping and his followers will heed 1 Corinthians 4:6 – “Do not go beyond what is written” – for future Biblical reference. It is spiritually dangerous to presume to speak for God out of human wisdom, when God has said in His word all that we need to know – pertaining to life and godliness.

……………………………………….

His followers placed Camping’s earthly wisdom far above that of God and the truth of His word – “No man knows the hour.” When humans falsely proclaim what “thus saith the Lord,” God will not stand for it:

“For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”

(1 Corinthians 1:19)

……………………………………….

If Camping understood the Bible that he holds in his hand, he would have no need to feel “flabbergasted” over his failed predictions – this is not the first time. If he had looked to God for wisdom instead of relying on his own feeble understanding, he would not be the laughing stock of the world right now. His feelings of bewilderment amount to pride, for he set himself up to be the right hand man of God – the only one God has spoken to – to carry his message of eternal doom to the world.

……………………………………….

Many of his followers left jobs, gave away possessions, spent thousands on this campaign, and May 21st came and went – and they are still upon the earth with the rest of us. Camping claims that he is “looking for answers…but now – “has nothing to say.” 1 No doubt he will return to his calculations and human reasoning to see what wrong corner he turned.

……………………………………….

“An NPR reporter talked to two Camping followers on Sunday.  “One man, his voice quavering, said he was still holding out hope that they were one day off. Another believer asserted that their prayers worked: God delayed judgment so that more people could be saved, but the end is ‘imminent,'” she reported.”

……………………………………….

It is Biblically true that “God is delaying judgment so that more people could be saved…” And yes, “the end is imminent…” If you have read the Bible for yourself, you would already know that.

“The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”  (2 Peter 3:9)

However, God is not operating on man’s timetable. When you put your hope in man and not God, you will always be disappointed. Do you think the Bible says these things for nothing?

……………………………………….

Isaiah 2:22  “Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?”

Jeremiah 17:5  “This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD.”

Psalm 118:8 “It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.”

Psalm 146: 3  “Do not trust influential people, mortals who cannot help you.”

……………………………………….

The conclusion in the matter:

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

1 Corinthians 1:31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

One last note – domestic violence and abuse are rampant in our churches due to ignorant preaching and teaching of the Word. I cannot understand, how supposedly intelligent people can read the Bible for themselves, and yet, conclude that abuse is the will of God. But then again, I can, for they “received not the love of the truth.”

……………………………………….

“And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be judged who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

“Now we beseech you, brethren, touching the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together unto him; to the end that ye be not quickly shaken from your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by epistle as from us, as that the day of the Lord is just at hand; let no man beguile you in any wise: for it will not be, except the falling away come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or that is worshipped; so that he sitteth in the temple of God, setting himself forth as God.”

(2 Thessalonians 1-4)

Preacher says world will actually end in October

“Through chatting with a friend over what he acknowledged was a very difficult weekend, it dawned on him that instead of the biblical Rapture in which the faithful would be swept up to the heavens, May 21 had instead been a “spiritual” Judgment Day, which places the entire world under Christ’s judgment, he said.”

“The globe will be completely destroyed in five months, he said, when the apocalypse comes. But because God’s judgment and salvation were completed on Saturday, there’s no point in continuing to warn people about it, so his network will now just play Christian music and programs until the final end on Oct. 21.”

THIS IS FALSE BIBLICAL TEACHING AT ITS WORST

No offense, but I would question the sanity of anyone who is still following this man, and making him super RICH! Camping stated,

“We’re not in the business of financial advice,” he said. “We’re in the business of telling people there’s someone who you can maybe talk to, maybe pray to, and that’s God.”

But he also said that he wouldn’t give away all his possessions ahead of Oct 21.

“I still have to live in a house, I still have to drive a car,” he said. “What would be the value of that? If it is Judgment Day why would I give it away?” WHAT???

“Camping, who launched a doomsday countdown in which some followers spent their life’s savings in anticipation of being swept into heaven, issued his correction during an appearance on his “Open Forum” radio show from Oakland, California.”

Judgment Day forecaster points to new doomsday date

This next comment shows how little he cares for his followers that now have nothing:

“Asked what advice he would give to followers who gave up much or all of their worldly possessions in the belief that his Judgment Day forecast would come true, Camping drew a comparison to the nation’s recent economic slump.”

“We just had a great recession. There’s lots of people who lost their jobs, lots of people who lost their houses … and somehow they all survived,” he said.

In other words my followers, GET OVER IT!

In 2009, the nonprofit reported in IRS filings that it received $18.3 million in donations, and had assets of more than $104 million, including $34 million in stocks or other publicly traded securities.

COME ON PEOPLE – WAKE UP!

UPDATE:

Failed Doomsday Has Real Deadly Consequences

“A California woman named Lyn Benedetto was one of millions who heard Camping’s message, and became concerned that her daughters would suffer terribly in the coming apocalypse. She allegedly forced her daughters, 11 and 14, to lie on a bed and then cut their throats with a box cutter. She then tried to kill herself, though police arrested Benedetto and all three survived.”

“Others were not so lucky. An elderly man in Taiwan reportedly killed himself on May 5 ahead of the Rapture by jumping out of a building. He had heard that doomsday was imminent, and had taken recent earthquakes and tsunamis as early warning signs.”

“There were other unconfirmed reports of doomsday-related suicides around the world as well.”

“This is of course not the first time that failed doomsday predictions have led to tragedy.”

“Last Thursday, the elderly pastor and Family Radio host best known for birthing an all-consuming “May 21st” rapture meme suffered a stroke and was hospitalized. The Oakland Tribune reported that the 89-year-old Harold Camping’s voice “may never be the same” after suffering a stroke that left his speech “a little bit slurred” according to a unnamed neighbor.”

“Because of his predictions, there are people severly struggling right now,” John Joseph Cina of New York said, referring to Family Radio supporters who spent their life savings to fund a national campaign warning the world of a May 21, 2011 doomsday. “Right this very minutes, completely broke [sic]. He says ‘I’m sorry’ Well, that’s nice of him. He’s now telling his followers that ‘we’ can never know anything, only god knows…….That is exactly what rational people have been saying all along.”
