HOMOSEXUALITY AND THE BLACK CHURCH

Salvation is a process, an endeavor which includes believing and obeying God; His Word; His Son; accepting Jesus His Son as Savior, and “working out your own salvation with fear and trembling,” (Philippians 2:12). There is more to it, but this is sufficient for laying the foundation of Christianity. Although many in our church houses feel that they have “arrived,” all Christians have a long way to go to achieve holiness, which will not be perfected this side of life. As long as we dwell in the flesh, we will fall short of the Glory of God – often.

………………………………………………..

I am not sure what causes believers to look down upon one another; form cliques which exclude other Christians, or view the unsaved as repugnant insects. But by faith, I do know this – God is real, He does not change, and as the Almighty Creator, He has every right to govern this world and all therein as He sees fit. It all belongs to Him. We belong to Him. (1 Corinthians 10:26)

………………………………………………..

Look at it this way; you build a company – you are the brain-child, and it is your input and yours alone that built a way of life for you and perhaps others. Should you not have the right to administrate how the company should run? As the “sole-proprietor” do you not have exclusive say-so? Do you not have the right to make rules that must not be broken?

………………………………………………..

“Can I not, O house of Israel, deal with you as this potter does?” declares the LORD. “Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.” (Jeremiah 18:6-NASB)

“On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, “Why did you make me like this,” will it?” (ROMANS 9:20 –NASB)

“Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” (ISAIAH 64:8 – NASB)

………………………………………………..

Using our illustration further, it is your company and you make the rules. In fact, corporations especially have printed handbooks and company policy manuals that you are given when you are hired for employment. You either adhere to the rules, or suffer the consequences – at worst – the loss of the job and your income.

Company policy states that the workday starts at 7 a.m. You constantly come to work at 7:15 a.m., and expect the company to tolerate your tardiness. What you are really hoping in your childish thinking is that the owner of the company will change, or overlook the start time to satisfy you. Let’s say that your tardiness is tolerated, others will take notice and follow suit. But one day, tolerance will lose its patience.

………………………………………………..

As far as the company manual goes, it will still be the original rules of the company, legal, binding, and would stand up in a court of law. However, the power it possesses has no affect upon you, for you choose to do what is right in your own eyes. The manual also includes rules that were designed for your protection against such things as harassment. But your choosing to ignore the policies in place will eventually cost you your income, and you forfeit all legal rights to the protections the company offers its employees.

………………………………………………..

I used the above illustration to demonstrate my view on the Black church and homosexuality. Most people seek employment for the benefit of survival, but many long for connectedness, a place to belong – a family. It is no different with worship. The dispute between straight and gay people and worship is the fact that those who seek this spiritual family will come as they are, homosexual – out of the closet – seeking acceptance and inclusion. The straight people will reject their lifestyle according to what they embrace as God’s Word on the matter – excluding prejudiced opinions.

………………………………………………..

The spiritual laws (procedures) are in place, but those who live as gays expect to come in at 7:15 a.m., when the spiritual manual – the Bible – says start time is at 7:00 a.m. In other words, the Holy Bible speaks against homosexuality, but the “religious” homosexual believes that it is the members of the church itself that are condemning their choice in mating. Granted, those without tact and empathy may go overboard in voicing what “thus saith the Lord.” But that doesn’t change what God has said about the matter. It is wrong to verbally or physically abuse another because of their chosen way of life, but that doesn’t change the fact that God labels homosexuality as an “abomination,” and “detestable.” (Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Judges 19:22;)

………………………………………………..

Also, how can one work out their soul salvation by remaining in a homosexual lifestyle? Striving to “sin no more” means giving up something, or someone. Adulterers must give up sleeping with someone else’s spouse; or stop cheating on their own husband or wife. Fornicators must give up having sex with partners they are not married to. God honors the marriage bed, and judges the acts outside of a holy bedroom. Holiness is a working out, a striving forward to something – a way of life. Liars must stop lying. Thieves must denounce stealing, especially in the name of the Lord. Murderers must repent of shedding blood, and possibly make restitution. We are all working out something – or we should be.

………………………………………………..

We who have committed immorality at one time or another needed to maintain a sense of spiritual association. It is inconceivable to think that we were so far gone in our wickedness as to give up on God, or some kind of spirituality that makes us feel that we are not all bad. We have our sins, but need to feel that we are worthwhile as human beings. We rationalize that God is a forgiving God – and He is, and that He will understand – and He does – our striving with sin.

………………………………………………..

He could have wiped out the world the first time and left it that way. But His love for mankind gave us another shot at life on earth – and another opportunity to establish a relationship with our Creator. But His laws for living did not, does not, and never will change. Just like a company manual, the rules to work by have built in protections for our own good. But self-will denounces the governance of God, and chooses self-imposed independence instead – but not without eternal spiritual penalties.

………………………………………………..

If homosexuals don’t agree with what the Holy Bible teaches, then why do they desire to be a part of an institution that condemns their lifestyle, and immorality period? The Bible is not a smorgasbord buffet where you can pick and choose what tickles your fancy. The Black church is labeled as “homo-phobic” and “intolerant” of alternative lifestyles. Well, it is not the church that gave us the Holy Scriptures. So really, those who protest the view on homosexuality and the church are shaking their fists at heaven, not the people who just say what God says.

………………………………………………..

I don’t think the Black church, or any church should be hostile to gay men and women. However, there is an opportunity for teaching and leading – provided that the pulpit itself is spiritually clean. Violence only begets violence, and it solves nothing.

Should gays parade their lifestyle openly in the church house? No! First of all, defiance spits in the face of God. Light and darkness have no fellowship, in a way of acceptance and blending. The unsaved will truly be confused, “Is God against homosexuality or not?  Just as people feel that Christianity should not be forced upon them, neither should alternative lifestyles that go against what an individual believes. A woman I knew in an adulterous relationship stated to me, “God is just gonna have to forgive me.” Well, God doesn’t HAVE TO do anything! Personally, I am not against gays coming to hear the Word of God. Perhaps they will hear something to help them to see the light. But coming all out in the church house is shameful.

………………………………………………..

The Word of God will not change. There may be counterfeit Bibles published in our society, but the original commandments still remain. In these Last Days, we all should be striving to work out our soul salvation earnestly. Just look at our world today, it is a sure sign that mankind needs a Savior – and someday, He is coming back again.

Homosexuality is against the Will of God, as well as all sin. A homosexual in the pulpit is akin to a wife-beater in the pulpit. Both need to work out some things and change in order to inherit eternal life. And as far as judging the lives of others, God gave the church the right to judge situations that affect the church, and the purity of the Gospel. But judging is another topic for another time. (John 7:24; 1 Corinthians 5:12)

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

“Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned;” (2 Peter 2:2)
